SBAR: Clear Communication in Healthcare

Tools Used: NotebookLM, Synthesia, Claude.ai, MS Word
Learner Profile and Training Context:
This video was developed as part of onboarding for newly hired clinical staff (nurses and junior doctors) joining a hospital. While the learners brought foundational clinical knowledge from academic study or prior placements, they had limited experience with standardized communication protocols in a live inpatient setting. SBAR is a practical, immediately applicable skill that new hires needed from day one.

The video was designed with the learner's headspace in mind. New starters are motivated and eager to perform well, but onboarding is a busy, high-pressure period. Therefore, the content needed to be concise, jargon-light, and easy to absorb in a single sitting. This shaped the decision to deliver it as a short explainer video rather than a lengthy written guide or workshop.

Learners were comfortable engaging with digital content through an LMS, so a video-based format aligned with how they already expected to learn. The goal was not just awareness but building confidence - helping new staff understand the SBAR structure and apply it in real clinical handovers and escalation conversations.
